 Killed in Samarra, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated near their unit during combat operations. He was awarded the Silver Star for bravery.

SGT Andrew Perkins was born in Lubbock, Texas on 21 May 1979. He enlisted in the United States Army on 22 April 2004 as an 11B Infantryman, completing One Station Unit Training and Airborne School at Fort Benning, Georgia.
Upon completing his initial training, SGT Perkins was assigned to Charlie Company, 2nd Battalion, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division on 28 October 2004. SGT Perkins served as a Rifleman, an Automatic Rifleman, and a HMMWV driver while assigned to Charlie Company. He deployed in support of Joint Task Force Katrina in September 2005 and Operation Iraqi Freedom on 9 August 2006.
SGT Perkins was killed in action in Samarra, Iraq on 5 March 2007 by a secondary explosive device while evacuating casualties from a HMMWV that had been struck by an IED during combat operations.
SGT Perkinsí awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart Medal, Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Ribbon, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, Humanitarian Service Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Combat Infantrymanís Badge, Expert Infantrymanís Badge, and, the Parachutist Badge.
SGT Perkins is survived by his father, Weldon Perkins, his mother, Kathy Perkins, and his step-mother, Elizabeth Perkins and also 2 brothers and 2 sisters, step brother and 2 step sisters.
