Killed in Baghdad, Iraq, while driving an engineer vehicle in the lead of a route clearing mission looking to find and destroy IED's. An IED exploded within 2 meters of the drivers side of the vehicle, immediately killing him. 3 others survived with serious injuries in the vehicle.

Joseph was a Combat Medic assigned to HHC attached to another company (Engeneers). He was awarded the combat medical badge for actions taken in February 2006 on a similar mission.
